President of the Estonian Society of Internal medicine 2006-2017
President of the Estonian Society of Family Physicians 1996-2001

The main areas of research have been devoted to the health outcomes in chronic diseases, metabolic diseases, reforms in primary health care and medical education. More than 200 publications, out of them 110 in international peer-reviewed journals. Supervised 9 PhD dissertations.

The main teaching responsibilities are in teaching physical examination and communication skills for undergraduate medical students, general internal medicine for residents, methodology of research and publications for PhD students.

Consultant of the World Bank Health projects in medical education and primary care in several countries of Asia and Europe.
