Augusto Caraceni, was born in Milan (8/8/1960), graduated at the Medicine school of the University of Milan in 1985 , certified in Clinical Neurophysiology (1988) and Neurology (1993) he spent all his professional life at the National Cancer Institute of Milan, dedicated to the development and dissemination of palliative care in cancer with particular attention to the control of cancer pain and quality of life research. He participated in the global WHO program for cancer pain relief (1982-1990). Clinical Fellow in Pain and Palliative care at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in New York in 1994, principal investigator and associate partner research project funded with competitive calls by national and international agencies , he has published 243 articles in peer reviewed journals. He is director of Palliative Care -Hospice, Pain Therapy and Rehabilitation at the Fondazione IRCCS National Cancer Institute of Milano Italy, Vice Chair of the European Association for Palliative Care Research Network , Professor of Internal Medicine and Director of The Specialty School in Palliative Medicine and Palliative Care of the Faculty of Medicine of the Università degli studi di Milano Department of Public Health and Community Medicine
