Antonio Brucato, MD, is currently Associated Professor of Internal Medicine, University of Milano, Chief of Internal Medicine Unit, Ospedale Fatebenfratelli, Milano, Italy, and Chief of the department of Medicine. He was the chief of the “EMERGENCY COVID” unit of his Hospital in 2020 and 2021. He was born in Milano, 05-MAR-1958, and is married, with 3 sons. He established the Center for the study and management of pericardial diseases. He is specialized in Internal Medicine and in Allergology and Clinical Immunology. Prof. Brucato has focused for many years on the management of pregnancy in rheumatic autoimmune diseases and pericardial disease: pathogenesis, therapy, prognosis, different phenotypes, clinical course in children, elderly, pregnant women. In particular he published the landmark articles who demonstrated the efficacy of anti-IL 1 agents in the treatment of recurrent pericarditis with an inflammatory phenotype. This discovery opened on turn the road to study inflammosome in myopericardial diseases and inflammatory cardiomyopathies. He is elected member of the nucleus of the ESC working group on Myocardial & Pericardial diseases (2022-2026), in which he has been already elected years ago.
He is coauthor of the ESC Guidelines on the Diagnosis and Management of Pericardial Diseases published in 2015, and he is currently involved as author and reviewer in other ESC guidelines in preparation.
