Professor Kirsi Pietiläinen is an internist, Professor of Clinical Metabolism at the Obesity Research Unit of the University of Helsinki, and chief physician at the Weight Management Clinic of Helsinki University Hospital, Finland. She serves as the Chair of the Finnish Obesity Treatment Guidelines and the President of the Finnish Association for the Obesity Doctors.
With 30 years of experience in obesity research, Professor Pietiläinen’s interests broadly encompass the biology of obesity, molecular mechanisms, mitochondria and new treatment methods. At the University of Helsinki, she studies the pathophysiology of obesity and obesity medications while teaching future doctors. At the Helsinki University Hospital, her innovative digital care team develops modern, cost-effective strategies for obesity treatment. Professor Pietiläinen has been a prominent public advocate for reducing obesity stigma.
