Manuel Monreal was born in Gerona, Spain, in 1952.
Medical Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona in 1975 and Doctorate in Medicine in 1982.
Head of the Internal Medicine Section at Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol in Badalona and Professor of Vascular Medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona until April 2022.
Director of the Chair of Thromboembolic Disease at the Universidad Católica San Antonio (Murcia) from 2015 to the present.
In 2001, he launched the RIETE Registry (Computerized Registry of Patients with Thromboembolic Disease), which includes participation from countries across Europe, Latin America, the United States, Canada, and Asia. As of October 2024, the RIETE Registry includes 242 active hospitals in 29 countries and has published over 300 original articles in international journals.
He has supervised 27 Doctoral Theses, served as Coordinator of the Thromboembolism Group of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine for six consecutive years, and is the Founder and President of the FUENTE Foundation (Foundation for the Study of Thromboembolic Disease in Spain) and the Association for the Study of Vascular Medicine in Spain (ASEMEVE).
He is an International Member of the Society of Vascular Medicine, the European Society of Vascular Medicine, and the International Advisory Council of the Anticoagulation Forum.
He has authored or co-authored more than 630 original research articles, most of which have been published in top-tier or second-tier international journals.
