Zhanna Davidovna Kobalava, born 05.10.1958, MD, PhD, professor, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vice-President of the Russian Scientific Medical Society of Therapists (RNMOT), Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, , Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), graduated from the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) in 1984.
• Head of the Department of internal medicine with a course of cardiology and functional diagnostics named after academician V.S. Moiseev, RUDN University (2017-till now)
• Head of the RUDN Therapy Clinic (2017-till now)
• Head of the Scientific and Practical Center of Integrative and Translational Medicine of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (2017-till now).
The main scientific achievements of the center are related to research in the field of inter-organ relations in the clinic of internal diseases. Concepts of cardio-renal relationships in arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, acute coronary syndrome, acute and chronic heart failure, infectious endocarditis, cardio-hepatic and hepatic-renal interactions have been developed and introduced into clinical practice.
Kobalava Z.D. is one of the first in our country who began investigations in the area of clinical and research possibilities of daily monitoring of blood pressure, central blood pressure, stiffness of aorta and main arteries. She was a National coordinator of major international projects, including on hypertension (VALUE), atherosclerosis (CANTOS, ZEUS) and infectious endocarditis (EURO-ENDO), Organizer of major national monitoring projects on arterial hypertension (ARGUS, ARGUS-2).
She is an author of more than 20 monographs, manuals and textbooks, the most important of which are: textbook “Internal diseases” (4th reissue in 2021) with English translation, “Fundamentals of Internal Medicine” (2nd reissue in 2020), “Heart diseases” (reissue in 2016), “Arterial hypertension: Keys to diagnosis and treatment” (2009).
Prof. Kobalava is an active member of national and international scientific societies, such as: European Society of Cardiology (FESC), Russian Society of Cardiology (Presidium member, Chair of Evidence based Cardiology Section), Russian Society of Experts in Heart Failure (Presidium member), All-Russian antihypertensive league (Ex-president, Presidium member), American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association.
